Many of you may have searched online or on YouTube for ways to automate processes, automation tools, or even free automation tools. You may have encountered claims such as “Automate your processes in three easy steps!” or read a success story from an industry leader. In reality, implementations range from simple initiatives to large, slow-moving programs. Automation can offer major benefits, but it does not guarantee organizational success on its own. Think of a soccer team with outstanding forwards but a weak midfield and defense: even the best attack cannot guarantee victory.
Software automation is part of Industry 4.0. Many people have heard the term—perhaps because it is popular or frequently mentioned in the media—but may not know where it originated. The following timeline takes us back to our school history lessons to explain the origins of Industry 4.0. In our next post, we will continue exploring how the topic has evolved.
